Collection: International Women's Day

March 8, 2024

International Women's Day, called International Women's Rights Day in France, was created in 1908 at the initiative of the activist and defender of women's rights Clara Zetkin.

That year, 15,000 women marched in New York to demand reduced working hours, better pay and the right to vote.

This day was not made official until 1975 by the United Nations.

Progress is slow and many women around the world still find themselves deprived of basic rights and freedoms.

There is still a long way to go before things start moving.

This year, the year of its birth, Albatria pays tribute to fighters with three portraits of female activists.
