The ecological impact

Because the issue of the environment is essential these days, Albatria has opted for an eco-responsible manufacturing and delivery process. We are not perfect on all points but we try to do our best to limit the ecological impact of our creations.

The creation

This is probably the most important step in terms of ecological impact.

---------

AI side

On the AI side, one study concluded that a generated image required as much energy as charging a smartphone. So that’s not insignificant. And that’s without counting data storage. Anyone who has ever had the privilege of visiting a data center knows how much energy it requires to maintain. And not just for powering the servers, but also for the infrastructure and air conditioning.

---------

Human side

As for the human part, a significant amount of coffee and chocolate is needed to stimulate her imagination and support the execution. And since neither of these is yet produced in our latitudes… At least she has opted for fair trade.

The production

---------

The paper

For museum quality prints, we do not sacrifice quality while respecting the environment. With ultra-thick paper, made in France, from protected forests where harvesting is reasonable and appropriate, the soils are protected, GMOs are prohibited and natural regeneration is encouraged (FSC and PEFC labels).

For "Fine Arts" prints we are a little less virtuous with cotton paper, however without optical brighteners and instead using natural minerals.

---------

The ink

For Museum quality prints, we use a water-based vegan ink, eco-certified by the OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT and by the GOTS 5.0 label. For "Fine Arts" prints we use a water-based pigmented ink, Nordic Swan Ecolabel 041 certification.

---------

The manufacturing

All manufacturing is carried out in France via short circuits. In Ardèche for Museum quality prints and in Ariège for “Fine Arts” prints.

And of course the prints are only made on demand. This requires a little more patience but this way, no storage or waste.

Delivery

A medium impact for this part. The packaging is not neutral and a delivery necessarily requires travel even if we strive, as you read just above, to favor local production.

We have tried to optimize these points as much as possible.

  • The packaging is plastic-free, made of recyclable and - most of the time - recycled cardboard.
  • The adhesive is made of Kraft paper and therefore plastic-free.
  • Vellum paper envelopes are produced in France
  • Wax seals are also produced in France
  • Delivery is carried out exclusively by La Poste, a carrier committed to reducing and offsetting its carbon emissions.

So much for our commitments.
And the idea is of course not to stop there and to constantly try to improve.

A story to follow then…
